Whether you’re an adventure seeker, history buff, or nature enthusiast, Grants Pass offers a diverse range of activities that will make your trip unforgettable. As a local, I can tell you that this small town has a whole lot more to offer than meets the eye, and I’m excited to share my favorite things to do with you.

Whether you’re just passing through or planning an extended stay, Grants Pass has something for everyone. From outdoor adventures to cultural gems, here’s my guide to the top things to do in Grants Pass, Oregon.

1. Explore the Rogue River

The Rogue River is the heart and soul of Grants Pass, and one of the top attractions in the area. Whether you want to fish, raft, or simply enjoy a peaceful stroll along its banks, the river is always a stunning backdrop to your outdoor adventures. Locals and visitors alike spend time on the river, taking in the breathtaking scenery and wildlife. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even go whitewater rafting or take a guided fishing trip to experience the Rogue River at its finest.

I spent many hours of my youth rafting, swimming, and enjoying the Rogue. Most famous for its’ salmon and steelhead fishing, as well as white water rafting, Grants Pass is the perfect base camp for exploring.

The wild and scenic section of the Rogue River starts just 7-miles west of Grants Pass. Since permits are required to raft this section of the river, hiring a guided company is advised. Our family has used Orange Torpedo for rentals before and they are a reputable company. If a multi-day rafting adventure isn’t what you are after, perhaps a short day trip guided or unguided on sections of the Rogue that don’t require a permit. Orange Torpedo can accommodate that as well.

If fishing is what you are after, the Rogue River offers plenty of opportunity. There are multiple spots for bank fishing, lots of places to put your own boat in the water, and also several companies offering guided fishing trips. If you are looking for a fishing guide around Grants Pass, I highly recommend Bo Dunson. I may be a little biased, as he is family, but I assure you that you will have a great time!

Insider Tip: The summer months offer the best weather for water activities, but the fall foliage along the riverbanks is a sight to behold if you visit in October.

Also, because the park does entirely close down at times, it is suggest you contact the Illinois Valley Vistor Center before heading out. Their number is (541) 592-5125.
